Fall Sensory Ideas

Fall Sensory Ideas

Some kids need sensory input to help them get used to touching and feeling things that are a little uncomfortable. These kids are sensory defensive.   This is training their sensory systems to modulate these feelings so they can function better in more environments.  Some kids need sensory input because they are sensory seeking.  They need extra input to help calm and regulate their bodies.

Here are some fun ideas we have for fall themed sensory activities:

PUMPKIN PUTTY

3/4 teaspoons of borax
1 1/3 cups very warm water
        Combine in small bowl

In a second bowl combine
2 cups of white school glue
1 1/2 cups very warm water
a few drops of orange food coloring
Pumpkin pie spice - added until you have reached the desired scent
Stir in the bowl to work all the ingredients together.  Then let the kids work the mixture with their hands
to achieve a gooey, slimy, putty consistency!

**This product is NOT edible!**

PUMPKIN GUTS

For more defensive kids put the insides of a pumpkin, seeds and all into a sealed plastic bag.  Let the child squish and feel the pumpkin insides.  For kids who want more input, you can take the insides from the pumpkins you carved, place them on a tray with sides and let the kiddos go to town playing in the pumpkin guts!
