
What should you do if you think your child is stuttering?
At home tips:
· Avoid speaking for your child. Concentrate on what your child is saying, not how he or she is saying it.
· Don't finish what your child is saying.
· Don't interrupt your child when she or he is speaking.
· Don't use facial or body language that shows your child you, the parent/caregiver, are anxious or upset about your child's speech.
· Don't show that your are upset or distressed when your child stutters.
· Don't label your child as a "stutterer".
· Don't limit the amount of time that your child has to speak or indicating that the parent/caregiver is in a rush and does not have time to listen
· Don't ask many questions of the child in a short period of time
· Don't tease your child about his or her speech.
