High Protein Helps with Attention
Maintaining steady blood sugar throughout the day helps kids (and adults) avoid highs and lows of energy throughout the day. Smart snacking can help ward off afternoon sleepiness and inattention.
Mom was right; breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Starting the day off with protein, carbohydrates and healthy fat will go a long way to keeping your blood sugar and snacking in in line for the day.
Here are some suggestions for a protein filled breakfast:
· Hard boiled or scrambled eggs. (Hard boiled eggs are good on the go food)
· Breakfast burrito with eggs, salsa and some avocado for good fat. This is a well balance breakfast in terms of carb, fat and protein.
· Yogurt parfait with nut and seed granola. You could add some fruit too!
· PB & J overnight oats.
· Cottage Cheese with fruit
· Protein shake or smoothie
Here are some ideas for protein filled after-school snacks:
· Edamame
· Hummus with veggie sticks
· Lunch meat rolled around a cheese stick
· Yogurt
· Jerky
· Whole wheat pita pizzas (put pizza sauce and toppings on a halved pita)
· Deviled eggs
· Mixed nuts and popcorn
