Handwriting can be fun!
Handwriting skills begin to develop at an early age, first looking at pre-writing skills such as drawing horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines. As children progress, they begin to utilize both visual-motor and fine motor skills to advance pre-writing and writing skills. Using a multi-sensory approach can keep things fun and help to more effectively integrate these new motor patterns.
FUN, multi-sensory ways to work on pre-writing and writing skills at home!
-Build shapes/letters with objects such as straws or popsicle sticks
-Draw shapes/letters in shaving cream, sand, or with play doh
-Draw shapes/letters on chalkboard or whiteboard and have your child erase it for you using the correct starting point
-Make rainbow letters to trace over shapes/letters with repetition using a new color each time
