Google glass is a technologically loaded smart phone type device made to look like glasses. The wearer can access many of the same things a smart phone user can, but in a hands free manner using voice commands. Google glass is a prototype that is not being made for the public at this time, but they are working on a model for future use.
Researchers at Stanford University are using Google Glass in their research to help kids with autism analyze faces in real time and alerting them to the emotions of people around them. Individuals with autism often have difficulty interpreting emotions of others, which can result in social difficulties.
The facial recognition software was developed at Stanford and runs using a front facing camera with a tiny display above the right eye.
The idea of the software is to teach children with Autism how to understand what a face is telling them. The hope is that this will lead to more and better social interaction.
